11 river sites across India breach flood warning levels, CWC reports

The Central Water Commission (CWC) announced on Wednesday that water levels at 11 river monitoring stations across India have crossed their warning thresholds, though none have reached the more critical danger or extreme flood levels. This assessment was part of the commission’s daily flood bulletin, released by the Central Flood Control Room, which confirmed that currently, no sites fall under the "severe" or "extreme" flood situation categories.

Despite active monsoon conditions, 12 specific sites in states including Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh have been flagged for "above-normal" flood situations. In Assam, the Kushiyara River in Karimganj and the Brahmaputra at Neamatighat in Jorhat are nearing concern levels. Bihar is closely observing elevated water levels in the Kosi at Baltara, Bagmati at Benibad, and Gandak at Dumariaghat. Uttar Pradesh has four sites under close watch: the Ganga at Fatehgarh and Kachhla Bridge, Ghagra at Elginbridge, and Gandak at Khadda, which touched the warning level of 95 meters.

Further south and east, Odisha reported above-normal levels at Mathani Road Bridge and Rajghat on the Subarnarekha in Baleshwar district, while in Tamil Nadu, water levels at Musiri on the Cauvery River also crossed the warning mark. The CWC has also issued inflow forecasts for 23 reservoir and barrage sites across 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Major reservoirs in Karnataka, such as Almatti, Narayanapur, and Tungabhadra, are experiencing rising or steady trends with high inflow volumes. The Rengali Reservoir in Odisha and Durgapur Barrage in West Bengal are also witnessing significant inflows, prompting alerts for potential downstream impacts.
